Locomotion

Watch world-leading locomotive investigation specialists as they try to determine the true history of an engine.

Join experts Dr Michael Bailey and Dr Peter Davidson as they scrutinise parts of a locomotive believed to be a replica of an original 1822 George Stephenson design.

They'll be taking countless photographs and measurements and comparing materials and methods of construction with archive evidence to find out the story behind this engine.

The investigation takes place in public view in the Collection Building and the investigators will be happy to answer your questions.

Below you will find the dates the investigation team will be at Locomotion to continue their work. We will update the list as far in advance as possible, but please note this may still be short notice and dates may be subject to change.

To find out more about the project, have a look at the press release.

On-site investigation sessions are on hold while the team conducts archive research and writes up its findings.
