To celebrate the opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway in 1825, we're exploring themes of journeys, movement and forces through free, fun, family activities through the Easter holidays.
Things to do this Easter
Self-led activities
- Make it fly (22 – 27 April)—Craft a host of paper creations, including planes, gliders and helicopters!
- Rocket mice (12 – 21 April)—Become an engineer and test the old saying 'what goes up must come down'.
- Great Object Hunt: Forces (12 – 27 April)—Follow your curiosity and our trail to explore the amazing objects in our galleries.

- Moving images
(Monday 14, Tuesday 15, Tuesday 22 and Friday 25 April)
Join artist Dawn Belshaw to create your own moving images on the theme of railways and journeys. - Memory of a journey
(Wednesday 16, Thursday 17 April)
Take part in a mass-participation art project from S&DR200 and decorate a peg doll to represent your favourite train journey. - S&DR Structures
(Tuesday 15, Wednesday 16, Thursday 17 April)
Locomotion’s Explainers will be inviting visitors to work together to use K’NEX to create models based on structures from the Stockton & Darlington Railway. - Where will you go?
(Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 April)
Artist Lizzie Lovejoy will invite visitors to take part in drawing and writing sessions which explore what was, is and could be in the future.
