08 Diesel footplate experience

You will experience authentic diesel locomotive operations on the footplate of the 08 Diesel whilst it pulls our passenger train rides twice up and down our demonstration line. Numbers are limited and pre-booking is essential.

Participants must be over 18 and physically fit to climb on and off the locomotive, with no medical conditions that would impede their ability to take part.

Due to the nature of the experience, participants are advised that they are likely to be in contact with oil, soot and dirt from the locomotive and therefore white and light-coloured garments should be avoided. We recommend wearing long sleeved natural fibre clothing and trousers, and sturdy non-heeled footwear. 

Please arrive at the platform at least 10 minutes before the experience begins. Latecomers may not be admitted.

Terms and Conditions

• Under no circumstances will the participant be permitted to take part if under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
• Participants must obey the instructions given by the Rail Operations crew at all times, including being instructed when it is safe to get on or off the locomotive. In the unlikely instance of an emergency situation, await instruction from the onboard crew.
• Locomotion reserves the right to refuse access onto the footplate if the participant is in violation of any of these conditions, and no refunds will be issued.
• Locomotion cannot be held responsible for damage to clothing or footwear during the experience.
