Birth of the Railways and Track Building Demonstration

Join us for a talk revealing how George Stephenson built the Stockton and Darlington Railway, and the significance of the museum's historically important Shildon location. Then become an expert in how train tracks are built with a special demonstration.
Build Your Own Railway
Time: 11.00–15.00
Cost: Free—1 per family
Age: 7+
Work with your family to build your own track and trolley to take home. Encourage your young engineers to think creatively as they build a card trolley with axles and wheels which will run along a track of made of lollipop-stick sleepers and paper straw rails.
Build Your Own Train

Our youngest visitors can get hands on with this creative colouring activity. Colour in your own engine, carriage and cart, then cut out and stick together to form a train.
