Discover more about Shildon's mining and brass band heritage.
Find out how mining banners and brass band music have both been used to unify and rally communities in the Durham coalfields since the mid-19th century.
This display will include local miners' banners from the Durham Miners' Association. Visitors will be able view both sides of the banners, which have the social concerns, political allegiances and cultural currents of the their time woven into their fabric.
Banners and Brass also tells the story of Thomas Bulch and George Allan, aka The Wizard and The Typhoon—two brass band composers who lived and worked in Shildon.
