The perennially popular steam spectacular returned to Shildon in 2017, with world-famous Flying Scotsman on display and operating steam rides.
Very special guest locomotives including Flying Scotsman and BR Standard Class 2MT No. 78018 visited Shildon, the cradle of the railways, for Locomotion's annual two-day steam gala.
Steam train rides, guest locomotives and cab access were all part of this spectacular event. Whether new to locomotives or experienced in all things steam, there was something for everyone at the Autumn Steam Gala.

Steam rides
Passenger train rides were available on the museum’s demonstration line. Visitors were able to climb aboard and experience a slice of railway history first-hand, with steam rides hauled behind locomotives Furness Railway No. 20 and 60103 Flying Scotsman.
