Programme submissions

Do you have a great idea for a railway-themed exhibition? Find information on the type of proposals we are currently seeking and how to submit your ideas.

Our mission is to inspire futures. One of the ways we do this is through a diverse programme of temporary exhibitions, installations, and immersive experiences. Locomotion explores the huge impact of railways on Britain and the wider world.

To ensure that each exhibition or display is of the highest quality, mutually beneficial, and fits with our strategic plans, we work to several criteria. Each proposal will be judged against the Science Museum Group’s Mission and Values, the Group Exhibition Strategy, as well as Locomotion’s site-specific criteria.

Explore the information below to see if your exhibition proposal fits with our priorities.

Exhibition space

Locomotion hosts highlights of the national collection of railway vehicles in the world’s first railway town. The impressive Collection Building is home to more than 70 heritage rail vehicles, all of which tell a fascinating story about how the railways have shaped history.

Within this space, there is the opportunity for temporary displays that speak to the collection, telling compelling stories of the railways in Shildon and beyond.
